We spent one of our best family holidays here. There was nothing to complain about. Pool, flats, cleanliness - everything 1a. Valerio and Paola were excellent and very accommodating hosts. We would have liked to stay another 1-2 months :-)
"Wonderful place"Lucilla B . 21.07.2021
We had two wonderful weeks at Valerio and Paola's place. They are wonderful hosts and the place is gorgeous. The surroundings are picture perfect. The house has everything you need, and Paola cooks amazing meals. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
Jule - June 2021
Not only me, but our entire group enjoyed the stay at Valerio and Paolas place very much! The Hosts are very kind und likable people! The site ist just wonderful - the perfect place to relax and enjoy the lovely tuscan surrounding. Especially worth mentioning is the spacious terace with it's amazing view over the typical tuscan hills with some farm- and woodland and cypress.Very thoughtful of the owners, there is a fence around the swimming pool, which was especially nice for us, because we had toddlers amongst us. We can definitely recommend the place wholeheartedly.
"4 Familien"Albert H. october 2020
We, a family of 6, spent a marvellous week in September in Villa Le Ginepraie, located on the top of a hill with a great view on the Tuscany hills.
I will not repeat all the positive comments other reviewers already have said but I am pleased to note that we enjoyed the company of Paola and Valerio.
They are an outstanding chef and host who wil make your stay a memorable one!
Besides all the sport and yoga events, Valerio can tell you how the region has been developed and became rich of the alum.
You can still find it in the area.
We highly recommend you this perfect address.

We stayed at the villa Le Ginepraie for 1 week with 4 couples and 4 babys.
It’s a really nice place with a pool and pizza oven.
The pergola is really big!
The place is also very good located to reach San Gimi, Volterra or Siena.
Valerio and Paola (the hosts) are very kind. They do not disturb but are always ready for assist if needed.
We also booked the evening menu twice. It was really tasty and so comfortable with the baby's next door.
I can really recommend that place!
Thanks Valerio e Paola !!!
Natalie - September 2020
Valerio and Paola offer a magical stay at their Villa Le Ginepraie. They both go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and extra special. The outside sitting area is perfect for lazy evenings and watching the sun set. The pool has a beautiful setting and everything is very private. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed. We recommend morning yoga with Valerio and making fresh pasta with Paola! :-) The served dinner was absolutely delicious!! We will definitely be back to visit this beautiful spot we called home away from home. Thank you Paola and Valerio!

"Exceptional House in an exceptional Place!"Christof W. 05.09.2020
We stayed with friends one week end of August in the exceptional house of Valerio and Paola. We had a great week and would have loved to stay longer. The house is renovated and has a modern style, the interieurs and also the garden and surroundings show that the owners really care for everything and show true attention to detail. Valerio and Paola live close by, however they have a very professional attitude and create an atmosphere of absolute privacy for their guests. Only if you need support or help they are immediately available for you. From the terrace or the pool you have a splendid view on the Tuscany landscape, far away from neighbours and 6 km from the next village. We experienced a truly calm and relaxing week in Tuscany and plan to come back... Thanks a lot!
"Total GEM in Tuscany!!!"mwellner 07.10.2019
So wonderful to be back here again! From the first time here, there was never a doubt that I would be. This place is so, so special, the memories & experiences I’ve had here is beyond amazing, beyond words, and beyond pictures!
Rooms here are cozy, spacious, and clean. Full kitchen is available. Ample space outside and inside areas that are great for relaxing and enjoying time with friends, sceneries all around that won't disappoint. Dinner & breakfast here is a must try, for the food & ambiance. Another must try is the Pizza oven, so much fun!
Valerio, Paola, & Viola, thank you so much for making us feel like part of the family. For, the great ambiance, delicious dinners (that peperonata!), yummy sweets, cooking lesson, chit chats, caffè, juices & food spread every morning. And, for the day trip recommendations...so helpful!
Missing it all so much, can't wait to come back. I can't say enough about this place. If you're in Tuscany consider staying here for the great Tuscan experiences and memories. You, too will feel what a total gem this place is!
"Extended family stay"Nancy Hansen 01.10.2019
We were a group of 9 adults and 4 children on Holiday for a week. The villa is wonderful... each bedroom has a private very modern bathroom .There is a large fully equipped kitchen on the main floor and the apartments upstairs each have small kitchens with refrigerators and dishwashers ( So morning coffee can be done right next to your bedroom) Paolo and Valerio were very welcoming and showed us how to use the pizza oven, provided a grill for one evening meal of Tuscan beef and we enjoyed very much the one dinner and brunch we had them serve for us ( we are a family that enjoys cooking and had long dinners each night on the outside covered portico) The back deck overlooks a typical Tuscan hill scene and is perfect for viewing sunsets or the swimming pool. We loved the location ....everyday we could do day trips in less than 2 hours to Florence,Sienna,Volterra,Pisa or Lucca
"FIVE STARS is not enough!! There is simply NO better place to stay in the Tuscany area!!" tsteele554 10.09.2019
Our group of 10 adults had the most wonderful experience staying at this Villa! The serene location in the middle of a nature preserve provided an amazing backdrop for this clean, spacious, luxurious villa that had MORE than enough room to spare for all 10 of us!
The owners were warm and friendly; always available and accommodating to our every question and need. We took advantage of their home-cooked breakfast on two of our mornings at the Villa, and that also was a wonderful experience!
My husband and I stayed in the "sunflower" apartment which overlooked the pool and countryside! The cool breezes at night soothed us to sleep, while the gorgeous sunrises awakened us to the most delightful days.
The location in Tuscany is also great for day trips to local places. We drove into Volterra, Pisa, Lucca, Sienna, Florence and Greve while staying there, and all of these cities were reachable within 15-90 minutes from the Villa.
For all the reasons and more, please choose this Villa for your next Tuscany vacation!!
"Tranquil, stunning, comfortable and delicious" Stephanie Texas 10.09.2019
The location is spectacular, the house is spacious, clean, the terrace is perfect and the sofas on the terrace are super comfortable. The owners are the most pleasant people you can imagine, always helping out when needed but never disturbing and genuinely lovely. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is simple Couldn‘t think of a better way to experience a week in the heart of Tuscany - highly recommend it!
"Great Family Vacation at Villa Le Ginepraie." Family S 20.08.2019
For the second time we spent our summer vacation at Villa Le Ginepraie and once again it has been a wonderful time. The property is a dream and with the porch that has been added lately it is now close to being perfect. It is really hard to find a better place to relaxe, slow down and to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Tuscany. We spent our vacation with 5 adults and 6 kids (between 11 and 16 years) and we all had an awesome time. Besides the property itself Paola and Valerio are such wonderful hosts and I can just highly recommend Paolas cooking it's just outstanding!
"A must in Toscany and in my words its PARADISE..." R Larin 01.08.2019
Owners are very cooperative, well informed, and not disturbing. In the two weeks stay no complaints what so ever. I am very much surprised that this superb villa is under rated. Based on my experiences on all of my trips a 5 stars would be adequate.
"Wonderful stay in the hart of Tuscany" Kristof 14.07.2019
the villa was fantastic: big swimming pool, the incredible view from the terras (Tuscany at it's best) ....and last but certainly not least, the fantastic diners cooked by the host Paula makes us want to come back next week!!!
"Great Villa for larger groups in beautiful setting" Anne Katrin 19.06.2019
We had a great time and would recommend this villa highly.
"Magical week in Tuscany" Hmoore10 11.06.2019
The Villa is incredibly beautiful and the views from every window and porch are stunning. We went with our two sons, their wives and 3 grandchildren ages 10 to 15. It is designed perfectly to accommodate families or 5 couples. Each of the 5 bedrooms has it's own lovely bathroom and there are 3 separate kitchens in the main house and each one has it's own living room, so you are never crowded or unable to have time to yourself. The beds are all queen-sized and very comfortable and the bathrooms all have wonderful showers and new fixtures. That is just the beginning of the experience. Paolo, who is beautiful and charming, is also a world-class chef and she prepared dinner and breakfast for us each day. She would go to market each day and create amazing fresh, imaginative meals for us. It was such a luxury to explore the beautiful country-side and towns each day and then come home to a delicious meal we could all share together at the quintessential Tuscan table. They also made sure that it was all served on your schedule, not theirs. For us the unexpected joy was that Valerio would lead us in a 2 hour yoga session each morning very early on the porch. It was cool and you were surrounded by the incredible view and the rising sun. I also want to include how beautiful the salt-water swimming pool was and how much we enjoyed the easy hike in the country-side to a beautiful waterfall. As you can imagine we were so sad to leave and are already planning to return. Paolo and Valerian were beyond the perfect hosts - they always made us feel that they were entertaining treasured friends. If you were ever thinking about renting a Villa in Tuscany - do it now and make sure it is Villa le Ginepraie. P.S. we rented 2 cars in Florence and drove to the Villa without any problems and it was only a short distance to drive to all the gorgeous towns and villages in the area.
"Beautifoul Tuscan villa" Bert S. 06.06.2019
Our stay at Villa le Ginepraie was wonderful. The villa itself is beautiful and very tastefully decorated, as well as being comfortable and spotlessly clean. The views of the Tuscan countryside from the veranda are stunning. It was the perfect place to enjoy the peace and quiet or to have a drink and watch the sunset. The kitchens are very well equipped, and there was plenty of space for 10 people. We had dinner cooked by Paola one evening, and it was delicious, as was the breakfast. Paola and Valerio are excellent hosts, always available for questions and tips, Valerio even drove to Volterra to guide my brother to the villa when his navigation failed. They made us feel very welcome.
"Fantastic Vacation in Tuscany" Susan Q . 25.05.2019
I stayed at this property in May with a group of 8 friends. It was a fantastic place to stay. The layout of the villa was perfect for our group. It had enough space for us to have privacy but also to have space to hang out together. The views are amazing and sitting on the veranda was fantastic. The location is good in that the villa can be a good start for many day trips in Tuscany. One of the things that makes this villa so perfect is the family that owns and manages it. The communication before and during the trip was clear and prompt. We had meals provided at the villa and they were very good. We really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere in the restaurant and Paola served us some of the best food that we have ever had. I highly recommend a stay at the villa and hope to return again some day
"Heaven On Earth In Tuscany" Paul G. 06.05.2019
Four couples stayed at this beautifully restored villa and we were all so impressed by the facilities and beautiful surrounding countryside. We enjoyed three dinners and breakfast everyday and cannot say enough about what excellent hosts Valerio and Paola are in every way. Paola is an excellent cook and while we enjoyed everything, we all agreed the rabbit dinner was our favorite. It was a perfect stay for all of us and we would readily come again. The beauty of the area and such special hosts made this a vacation none of us will ever forget.
"Amazing Experience, Paola and Valerio are great" Global18244385554 1.11.2018
Our entire family spent a week at Villa Le Ginepraie. It was absolutely perfection. The Villa is beautiful, the views are amazing. It is so peaceful. The food was out of the world. If you are looking for a place to relax and get away from everything you do not need to look any further. Don't hesitate to make your reservation before it is sold out.
"Amazing villa!" Guide34028668421 31.10.2018
I went with my family for a week in August 2018. We are a group of 8 but never felt like we were in each others space or claustrophobic the villa is huge! We had a couple of meals cooked by the owners and were extremely well catered for. I would definitely return. Thank you!.
"A wonderful stay in Tuscany" Experience401831 27.10.2018
I would love to have awarded 5 stars for this property.
We had a great time visiting this Farmhouse, the location is perfect sitting in the hills of Tuscany with easy access to Volterra, San Gimignan, Pisa, Florence and Siena.
The building is stunning and simply nestles itself within the Tuscan countryside as though it was just meant to be.
Everything practical and went very smooth, the hostess Paola and Valerio were very helpful and sweet! (We miss you guy's)
I will happily recommend this place, and would love to return some time!
Greatings from the Broeren family!!
"Lovely Villa in Tuscany"Minna H. 23.10.2018
We were staying in Villa le Ginepraie in the end of September 2018. Our whole family, 7 adults and 4 children, enjoyed this peaceful and beautiful place with possibility to explore Tuscany around it easily. It was relaxing to spend days at the pool and on the terrace, both with amazing view over fields, or take a short drive to near by towns, Volterra or San Gimignano, for some sightseeing. We had also a pleasure to enjoy Paolas delicious meals every night. She minded all our special needs and still were able to cook really tasty local flavors for all of us. For every breakfast she baked fresh cake which our children found fantastic!
Villa was lovely old farmer house and it served our four families very well. Apartments were really clean and with lot’s of space. Paola, Valerio and Viola were very friendly hosts, every time we had questions about place to get lunch, possibility to visit vineyard or even about local wild animals we got answers and even more. They really know how to make guests to enjoy their stay.
"WOW" Nancy S 20-09-2018
My friends and I (3 couples in total) had the pleasure of staying at the villa. It was incredible. We stayed in the 3 well appointed 'apartments', which gave each couple some privacy while sharing the beautiful deck. We had fabulous meals prepared by the charming Paola and Valerio could not have been more accommodating. It was an ideal vacation.
"Fantastic house with lovely pool and very nice and complete hosting!" Zesa
What a beautiful, large, spacious house with a wide, lovely view! It is nice quietly situated but good reachable by car.
The new, big veranda is an absolute asset!
The pool is large enough for our family (8 adults and 5 children), with umbrellas en beds. A great surprise was the good closeable fence around the pool, which gave peace considering the young children that were with us ;-)
The hosting is great! Paola and Valerio will do anything to help and please you. They cooked for us twice, genuine Toscane meals that were was lovely which we ate at there attractive, cosy terras.
We hope to come back again in a few years!
Thank you very much Paola and Valerio and we wish you the best of luck and good seasons!
"Ladies' Getaway under the Tuscan Sun!" Ferrell L.
Villa le Ginepraie is an idyllic, quintessential Tuscan farm house set in the rolling hills near Volterra and Pignano. We were five girlfriends on a long-awaited trip to Tuscany to relax, eat delicious food and drink delicious wine. Each of us had our own room and bathroom. We used the kitchens, the fireplaces, the porch, the pool, the walking trails, everything. It could not have been a more perfect vacation. Even in the rain (it did rain a couple days of the trip), it was so peaceful and beautiful; being able to sit on the porch and watch the rain was just as relaxing as sitting by the pool overlooking the countryside. Paola and Valerio were the most gracious and accommodating hosts. Paola made us a 5-course meal - and it was HANDS DOWN the BEST meal we ate during our stay. We even went to a Michelin star rated restaurant in San Gimignano and it paled in comparison to Paola's cooking. Several of us did a daily morning run on multiple different paths and even down the gravel road towards Pignano, it was magical. We hope to make our trip annual, and absolutely back to Villa le Ginepraie! Thank you so much Paola and Valerio! We miss it already!
"A perfect week" Alexandre C 14-08-2018
A wonderful week in the heart of Tuscany, for all 11 person. Lots of space in and out of this big and quiet villa. We really enjoyed everything here, the oven, the pool, ...
And of course, the hosts Paola and Valerio are perfect. Here for advices, booking the activities, and even a marvelous diner...
I'd love to come back !
"Absolutely Fantastic! Exceeded our expectations!" Gina C. 13-07-2018
We were taking our whole family to Tuscany for our 35th wedding anniversary ( total of 8 adults with one grand baby) and initially were drawn to this villa for it's great location and size. The pictures do not do it justice...the house is amazing, spacious rooms, all bedrooms have en suite baths, three with living areas and kitchens but the real gem is the outdoor space - fantastic new covered deck with great vistas - we hung out there every night drinking wine and reviewing our days adventures! Loved the pool, clean & refreshing - make sure you leave days free just to hang at the villa! But the absolute best part of the Villa is your hosts- Valerio, Paola, and their adorable daughter Viola ( who our granddaughter loved!). Valerio is full of energy and always there to help you with anything you need. Now for the food- Paola's cooking is wonderful, she should have her own restaurant! Everything is so fresh and her baked goods are to die for. We loved our dinners ( & breakfast everyday) We were so happy that we ate at the villa most of our stay. We can't wait to return!!!
"Exceeded our Expectations" Clinton S. 26-06-2018
My wife, two daughters and niece stayed one week at the villa and could not have been more pleased! The Villa is ideally placed in a beautiful setting with views of the countryside on all sides. The grounds are well maintained and very private! Sitting by the pool in the afternoon after a day of exploring the neighboring villages was a great way to cool off and relax. The owners Valerio and Paola and their daughter Viola were such great hosts that we feel like they are old friends. Paola is a fantastic cook who prepared a 5 course meal for us one night that consisted of homemade pasta, rabbit, potatoes zucchini and homemade ice cream plus various cheese appetizers. Throw in a variety of after dinner drinks and we were all pleasantly stuffed to the gills including my 7 and 9 year olds who both liked the rabbit to our surprise. Home cooked meals are served upon request and for a fee in a separate kitchen/dining hall that is next to the villa. Literally 10 paces away! I highly recommend you at least have one meal there during your stay. Valerio and Paola were also very helpful and suggested many things for us to see and do in the area. The Villa is such a great place to stay that we decided to alternate our day trips and just hang out by the pool or go hiking. The Villa is very spacious, clean and well equipped with all the necessary kitchen utensils to cook for yourself, if you dare! The upstairs has two very large bedroom suites with private bathrooms with large walk-in showers, sitting room and their own kitchen. The downstairs has three bedrooms, a sitting room and an eat-in kitchen. All very spacious! There are two outdoor covered dining tables; one on the backside of the villa that has a wood deck and is covered with a trellis structure; and one on the front side that also serves as an exterior foyer for the main entrance, downstairs bedrooms and the stair to the second floor. The Villa could easily accommodate 5 couples without the feeling of overcrowding. I highly recommend this Villa to large groups or families looking for a place to relax and enjoy the Tuscany countryside! We can't wait to go back ! Now its just a question of who do we invite to go with us!
"A wonderful property in Tuscany" Miriam R. 26-05-2018
This is a lovely property with wonderful opportunities to spend time with your family but what is especially unique is the great duo of Valerio and Paola who own the property. Valerio offers free yoga lessons and is a great yogi and Paola will cook amazing meals for you. They are a wonderful couple who truly strive to make your stay a vacation to remember. And it was!!
"Exceeded expectations!!"Charles T. 14-05-2018
... which were already high based upon the photo's and communication with Valerio leading up to our stay. The pictures on HomeAway do not do justice to the idyllic scenery that surrounds you - nor to to the careful, high quality restoration of the apartments in the main villa we were staying in. With nine of us, it was the perfect place to stay, with plenty of room to gather communally, or find time & places to be alone. Valerio, Paola (and Viola!), are consummate hosts, available for any and all needs that you may have. The sweet & savory breakfast spreads thrilled us each morning, and we couldn't wait to return from our daily sojourns (Volterra, Lucca, Siena, Montechiello, et al), to enjoy the dinners that Paola prepared for us each evening. We had a fantastic week here, and we would return in a heartbeat. If you do go, please be sure to send our best (along with hugs), to Paola, Velrerio and Viola.
"Deliciously relaxing and perfect for a friends trip" GreenerNY New York City, New York 12-05-2018
We just finished a week in Tuscany, during which Ville Le Ginepraie was our home base as a total of 9 of us wandered around Tuscany together.
What a gorgeous place to rent...centuries old main buildings are complemented by a stunningly modern back porch, with outdoor couches and dining table to
Valerio and Paula are perfect hosts, always there and friendly to help however they can to make the visit more special. But they also completely disappeared into the background when we wanted some time to ourselves.
The grounds are gorgeous, with 360 degree views of the Tuscan countryside.
Paola is a lovely cook; we had all of our breakfasts and most of our dinners expertly prepared by her. (The frittatas, her sweet breakfast treats, and her homemade pastas and gelato particularly stand out.) And Valerio was our main host .... and daily yoga teacher for those of us willing to get up early before the days adventures began.
"Awesome Villa in Tuscany" rwillick Rio Verde, Arizona 19-11-2017
My husband, myself and two other couples had the pleasure of staying at LeGinepraie the third week of October 2017. What a wonderful location with a flair for elegance! Paola and Valerio were the perfect host and hostess. Paola is a fantastic cook. She is very shy about accepting that title. We would definitely suggest having her cook you your dinners. We also had the sweet and salty breakfast which was out of sight. Many types of prosciutto, cheese, breads, and the list goes on. All local ingredients from nearby farms. I guarantee you will not be for wanton staying there. We so enjoyed talking with both Paola and Vallerio at dinner time. A definite diamond in the rough! They both are quick to offer suggestions to visit Florence and Volterra. The photos of the accommodations don't do it justice. The rooms are extremely spacious, like apartments. We will definitely visit this villa again. Ciao!
"Stay in the heart of Tuscany at Villa Le Ginepraie for an amazing experience!"
Jay Erbe 04-11-2017
From the moment our group of friends arrived, our hosts Paola and Valerio made us feel welcome and at home. The villa is beautiful with five separate apartments and well-equipt kitchens. Valerio helped us plan our day trips and even made reservations for us to horseback ride. Paola is a talented chef and we enjoyed two delicious and delightful dinners in their adjacent restaurant while Valerio poured wine and answered our travel questions. We had a special treat when their young daughter Viola joined Paola in the kitchen. Our group of five vow to return one day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
"Enjoy the best of Tuscany at Ville Le Ginepraie"Sandra E Severna Park, Maryland, United States 02-11-2017
Our group of five friends enjoyed a week at this beautiful villa! The location as a base for day trips and the hosts Valerio and Paola are incredibly welcoming and helpful. During our stay, we visited Florence (twice!), Cinque Terre, and participated in numerous cooking classes, winery tours and horseback riding. Valerio was most gracious in helping us to plan our trips and even made reservations for us. Don't miss dinner at their adjacent restaurant while you're there! We had two delightful evenings that included Paola's outstanding cooking while Valerio poured the wine and visited with us. We highly recommend Villa Le Ginepraie!
Room Tip:Choose the main floor for ease of access!
"Fabulous villa in beautiful countryside" Alan B Northampton, UK 01-11-2017
Turning into the drive to Le Ginepraie we both felt like we were returning home. This time, we were without children and their friends. But shortly to be joined by 6 of our friends. Would they like it? Of course they all loved the place! Its setting, the rooms, the eating spaces, the pool, the pizza oven and Paola and Valerio as excellent hosts. Once again they provided us with a fabulous, never-to-be-forgotten meal. Over the winter they plan to have a verandah built on the back of the house. With lovely views across the valley this will be another option for meals or just relaxing. We will have to return.
Room Tip:We have always booked the entire villa but If you book a single suite/room go for the Red Room
"A hidden gem in Tuscany !!" glen01954 Denver, Colorado 26-10-2017
This hidden gem in Tuscany is a great treat. Paola & Valerio and Viola are the perfect hosts/cooks. Every meal made in-house was incredible and authentic Tuscan countryside prepared. My only regret was we didn't have Paola prepare dinner for us EVERY night as we went into Volterra a couple evenings to try some local restaurants. Her local/regional meals were incredible. Id highly recommend this Villa for a week long stay.
Room Tip: All rooms have killer view of the area.
"A perfect stay in Tuscany" Johanna Mugford Toronto 25-08-2017
Our family recently stayed at the Villa le Ginepraie for a week and wished it were longer. This vacation stay was nothing short of perfect.
This private villa was amazing for our group of 11 ( ages ranging from 10 years - 82 years ). The pictures do not do it justice. The property was breathtaking with stunning 360 degree views of the tuscan hills. The rooms were very spacious, clean and tastefully decorated. There were three fully equipped kitchens and laundry facilities on site. All rooms had beautiful views of the tuscan hills. Paola and Valerio were the perfect hosts- available if we needed them but otherwise gave us complete privacy. This young couple and their beautiful little girl have owned the property for 11 years. It is clear that running the villa is a labour of love for this family. They were so friendly and helpful and we will miss them.
The location was great - very close to Sienna, San Gimignano and Volterra. All worth a visit if you have time during your stay. We were also able to do day trips to Florence and Cinque Terra.
The meals that Paola cooked for us were the best we had during our stay in Tuscany. I strongly recommend you have her cook for you at least once if not for your entire stay - you will not be disappointed! Her food was delicious and I have come home with some amazing new recipes. Her ricotta cake, risotto and home made pasta were to die for!
The property was immaculately maintained. The salt water pool was spotless and so refreshing to have on site. It was hard to get the kids out some days!
We recommend this wonderful villa without hesitation and hope to be back one day soon!
"Superb experience in Tuscany" Pascal F Leuven, Belgio 21-08-2017
We rented the villa with our family and had an amazing week in the Villla Le Ginepraie. We very much enjoyed the swimming pool and its views, the breakfasts and dinners prepared by Paola but most of all the hospitality from Valerio and Paola. Very much recommended.
"Magnificent!!" stulu17 13-08-2017
We spent a week at Villa Le Ginepraie - our only disappointment - it was nowhere near long enough. Located between the hilltop citadels of Volterra and San Gimignano it is ideally placed to explore and enjoy some of the
most beautiful and historic locations Tuscany has to offer. The countryside surrounding the Villa is just as you would imagine -Cypresses marking ancient boundaries, with cool evening breezes that complement the pink skies of the setting sun. The Villa is marvellously appointed and spotlessly clean, and works extremely well as a base for multiple families or couples - providing the opportunity for community, as well as space for more private moments. Valerio & Paola are the consummate hosts making us welcome from the moment we arrived - what a great job they did. Valerio's local knowledge is both very helpful and interesting, our early morning walk with him was one of the highlights of our three weeks in Italy. Paola's cooking is without doubt delicious - possibly the best apple pie We've ever tasted. It would be wrong to stay and not give the pizza oven a try - though would recommend having plenty of reserves of dough for amateurs like us. The pool was in near permanent use with the younger members of our party and well enjoyed by the adults too.
We would recommend the Villa without any hesitation to all, and hope one day to once again enjoy watching the sun as it sets behind the Cypresses with a few more glasses of Vernaccia.

"Amazing Week In An Amazing Place!!" WhordleyS Salisbury, UK 11-06-2017
A perfect villa in a perfect location with absolutely perfect hosts! Paola and Valerio were incredibly welcoming. They were always available and couldn't have done anymore to make the stay more comfortable and relaxing. My wife and I were part of the 50th birthday party group, we had three amazing meals cooked by Paola. Valerio took us through a yoga session one morning which was a superb experience, especially with the beautiful scenery, followed by a trek to a waterfall (with more beautiful scenery!) with three pools which we swam in and had a lovely time. The villa itself was immaculate and had everything you could need. The same goes for the pool which was cleaned every morning. All in all an excellent villa! We couldn't recommend staying here enough and can't wait to come back!
"50th birthday celebration" CW707 Essex, UK 04-06-2017
Well what can I say...Paola and Valerio were excellent hosts, their villa was just fabulous and was set in just the perfect location. Myself and my wife were so lucky to have been part of a group celebrating a very dear friends 50th birthday and our 'birthday girl' could not have chosen a more perfect place to hold a week long party! I would certainly recommend dining at Villa Le Ginepraie where the food is prepared fresh and from scratch by the lovely Paola and served by Valerio 'al fresco' whilst we all enjoyed the magnificent views and sunsets. The Villa accommodation was perfect and easily has enough room for five couples without feeling crowded and the swimming pool and grounds were kept in pristine condition. Lots to do and see in and around the area and Paola and Valerio will organise wine tasting, trekking and yoga along with many other activities. I would 100% recommend this Villa as a perfect place to experience Tuscany which is made even more special by the lovely Paola and Valerio
"50th birthday celebration" Karen G. 04-06-2017
The group consisted of 6 couple, 5 in the villa and one at the B&B down the road. The villa is beautiful with amazing views. Our hosts, Paola and Valerio are a lovely couple with their gorgeous daughter Victoria. Valerio took us for Yoga and a trek to a waterfall. Paola cooked us three delicious three course meal. We hired cars so visited places like Lucca, Siena and Florence. I would 100% recommend a visit and we hope to return in the very near future.
Room Tip: Amazing views and hosts
"Amazing Villa in the heart of Tuscany" steinfeldsusanne Erfurt, Germany 25-04-2017
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay an this lovely Villa. The villa easily accommodated our whole family consisting of 7 adults (age 40 up to 79) and 2 kids (aged 8 and 10). We especially loved the loggia which is big enough for all to sit outside (for example for breakfast). In the evenings we would gather downstairs in front of the fireplace. But the Villa is also big enough for everyone to have room for themselves. The kids loved to stay on their own; with a bathroom just for themselves. The inside of the Villa is cosy and romantic. One can clearly tell how much effort and love the owners invested to turn this into a great location.
The area around the Villa is well kept and inviting to sit outside.
The scenery around the Villa is lovely with a great view of the countryside. Only a 15 minute drive away you can find a great hiking area with a little waterfall and natural swimming pond. A great experience. We also did lots of day trips to the cities nearby: Volterra (10 Minute drive), San Gimignagno (15 Minute drive), Florence and Siena (ca. 1 hour drive). Pisa is about 1 hours 20 Minutes away but not using the interstate it's a lovely drive through the countryside.
We had two birthday- dinners created by Paola, who is a great cook. We loved, that she prepared typical Tuscan food. Lots of flavour, fresh an very tasty. Even the kids - normally not keen on vegetables - enjoyed the food.
I can fully recommend the Villa Le Ginepraie
"Tuscan Heaven!" Ontario Explorers Ontario 19-10-2016
We found Le Ginepraie after a basic search to meet our needs: 5 couples, private bathrooms for each, located near Firenze, Pisa, Siena. This villa was one of a couple that immediately popped up, but a more exhaustive search could not find anything more perfect, at a reasonable price with positive reviews. Other reviewers have said many of the things we might repeat, such as the clean and spacious amenities, the tremendous facilities (pool, laundry, optional dining), proximity to many wonderful towns and cities as well as to vineyards of the Chianti and Chianti Classico regions. And, we are happy to note, that others have raved about the welcome extended by Paola and Valerio, the owners. They are a magical couple with a beautiful family, and by the end of the week we felt that we were saying goodbye to part of our extended family. Paola is an amazing chef, Valerio is an outstanding host and both go out of their way to assist guests in making travel arrangements within the region. We were delighted by the affordability of our vacation, but thrilled by the experience of staying at Le Ginepraie!
Room Tip: There are no bad rooms, only wonderful and "wonderfuller".
"Enjoying Tuscany" Terry E 04-10-2016
My wife and I, with some friends, just returned from a fantastic week-long stay at the Villa Le Ginepraie in southwest Tuscany. Just 10 miles east of Volterra, Le Ginepraie, owned and operated by Valerio and Paola, is perfectly located to support the day trips we took to many of the Tuscan hill towns. In addition, being located in a rural setting a little more than a mile off the main highway, allowed us to enjoy a very peaceful and restful atmosphere.
1. The Villa is just minutes from several excellent local restaurants.
2. The three apartments and both bedrooms are quite comfortable, and the apartments have fully furnished kitchens which provide additional dining options.
3. Paola is an excellent chef, she is creative and prepared the best venison (and birthday cake) any of the group had ever eaten!
4. We had breakfast prepared each morning and dinner three evenings, all courses were excellent! Paola's attention to detail in the preparation, and Valerio's enthusiastic service were fantastic.
5. Something new this trip was the opportunity to have a yoga class with Valerio what a treat, he is an amazing teacher!
This was the second time we stayed with Valerio and Paola, who with their young daughter Viola, do whatever it takes to ensure your visit is a success. It was an easy decision to return for this trip.
"THE ONLY PLACE TO STAY!!!" zwis19 Akron, Ohio 29-09-2016
Where to start. The villa is beyond amazing, the bedrooms are nice and roomy, huge kitchens, and great fire places. I suggest having at least a meal or two prepared by Paola and Valerio you will not regret it!
You will be hard pressed to find 2 better proprietors then Valerio and Paola.
"Beautiful place and beautiful people running it" Gayla P Colorado Springs, Colorado 27-09-2016
We didn't stay here but we had 5 other couples traveling with us that stayed here. We spent most of our time here with our friends when we weren't out touring the beautiful Tuscan cities and towns. The couple that run Le Ginepraie are so kind and welcoming. They are truly wonderful people with a beautiful Villa in an excellent location in Tuscany. Such a joy to spend time at Le Ginepraie. The food they provided was excellent and the cooking class was so much fun and informative.
Room Tip: Great Villa for groups or families!
"Amazing Location! Perfect Hosts!" Shilaswin Peyton, Colorado 22-09-2016
We stayed with 4 other couples and the hosts were very accommodating to our needs. The Villa was a perfect setting to relax or visit other cities. Paola and Valerio were perfect hosts. Paola gave us a cooking class and let us make our own pasta from scratch!

Le Ginepraie is a quiet place overlooking the Tuscany hills with wonderful, friendly hosts Val and Paola. We stayed a week with 5 couples and had Paola cook us some meals that were countyside Italian with homemade past and cherry tomato sauce and local raised rabbit.. We had a cooking class and enjoyed sharing the kitchen and talked about cooking and kids for and hour.. what a relaxing time we had.The Villa itself was fantastic just as described with its sitting areas, pool and pizza oven. I found this place for our friends and they will be talking about this place for years to come and most are coming back to bring family.. Thank you Val and Paola for giving us the opportunity to share your place. I loved being so close to local towns but so far from it all..
Room Tip:I loved the upstairs room due to private and the breeze

Great accommodations, great views and wonderful hosts. Near several great towns. Let Paola and Val cook you a fabulous meal. The area is quiet and there are several nice places to walk. The pool was an added bonus.

We were a group of 6 people who visited Tuscany and stayed in this beautiful 17th Century Villa, which has all modern amenities and is so tastefully done.
Location fabulous all the peace we city folks crave for, near enough for us to visit vineyards, San Gimignano,Florence, Pisa, Volterra and other cities. Breakfast fabulous and dinner wow!!! Felt like we were home as Valerio and Paola ...she is a fabulous cook and little daughter Viola made us so comfortable.Paola's cakes and deserts are to die for!!! Valerio's hospitability excellent and so much privacy too. Wish them all the best and we will be back soon......
Carla - June 2016
The time we spent at Valerio's place was fantastic! We were a group of 8 adults and 2 kids. Valerio and Paola are an adorable couple, they live next door and attended all our requests. The place is better than shown in the pictures. Very clean, the beds are comfortable , the kitchen well equipped. The pool is of salt water and cleaned every day. The location is in a beautiful country side of Tuscany, and just 15 min distance from the charming small cities Volterra e San Geminiano. Highly recommended!
"Magnificent and above our expectations" theodheer Sint-Niklaas, Belgio 05-06-2016
With the family and Italian Friends (12 people) we stay at Le Ginepraie for 1 week to celebrate a special birthday . We may say that we have fully enjoyed this vacation and we hereby will thank Valerio and Paola for the excellent hospitality we have received.
In reality the villa is even more beautiful comparing with the photographic review at the website. The apartments and rooms are very well arranged, nicely decorated, well provided and maintained too high standards of cleanliness.Le Ginepraie is a beautiful villa located in a pure Tuscan environment with a splendid outlook in all directions and a very quiet surrounding. It's amazing observing at the early morning
deers, foxes ,rabbits etc... around Le Ginepraie.
The villa is very favourable and centrally located to visit the Tuscan province up to Umbria with Siena,San Gimignano,Volterra and the Chianti villages in the neighbourhood.
We will also highlight Valerio's very well prepared breakfasts nicely served in the restaurant, but Paola's pure Italian cooked dishes and delicious desserts at dinner time were each day a relevation. Also the cooking sessions were highly appreciated and the recipes from Paola's own created cokery book are real culinary topics.
Recreation by cycling (with available bikes) or making nice promenades should also be pointed out.
Summarized we may say that Le Ginepraie was fulfilling 100% our expectations and defintely a place to return, especially to enjoy the hospitality of Paola and Valerio again.
"Amazing Simon G Sydney, Australia 24-05-2016
We had an amazing time here. Valerio and Paola were the best hosts and the house was fantastic. There were 2 families staying (10 in total) and the house had plenty of room for all of us. There are lots of lovely walks around the villa and it is close to both volterra and San gimignano
We'd also recommend the home cooked meal. The food (Paola) and service (Valerio) were superb and it was fun watching the meal being cooked.
It's also a very child friendly house
We will be back !!!!
"Fabulous Tuscan villa" Penny W Sydney, Australia 24-04-2016
What a fabulous villa - so well located and comfortable. We (two families of 5) booked the whole villa for a week in April 2016. Valerio and Paola were wonderful hosts, definitely recommend Paola's cooking - her meal (all day spent preparing) was amazing. Plenty of beautiful walks and day trips, very close to San Gimignano and even closer to Volterra - a delightful town. Borgo Pignano is a short stroll away, perfect for an afternoon drink, although it's hard to leave Villa Le Ginepraie! There are indoor and outdoor dining options depending on the weather, all with glorious views. Kitchen facilities were great, including pizza oven. Kids loved having space to run around and kick a ball, or laze with a book by the pool after city sightseeing.
Thank you again Valerio and Paola - would definitely recommend to anyone, such a special and memorable week. We hope to return one day!
"Wonderful hosts and serene location" hugolyon Lyon, France 13-10-2015
We spent a marvellous week in Le Ginepraie, so close to Pisa, Firenze, San Giminiano, and other places to be seen : Abbazia di Monte Oliveto, terme de Saturnia,
This wide house is located on the top of a hill, with a splendid view on t the quiet surrounding : fields and forests. No noise to be disturbed :neither car, plane or barking dog, only deer crossing the fields :it's a reserve for wild animals.
And in this protected nature we found many pathes for walking or running.
The house is perfectly renovated, spotlessly clean, well equipped even for a large family, with comfortable beds.
Though we were in October, the external temperature was agreable, even if we appreciated reading by the fireplace at night.
And it was a great pleasure to meet Paola and Valerio : they are so kind, so helpful, giving us as often as needed ideas for walking, addresses of shops in Firenze and places to buy good wines and oil.
We highly recommend you this perfect address.
"Beautiful Tuscan Villa" Jod61 Los Angeles 12-10-2015
Friends of mine rented out the entire place and invited me to stay here with them for their wedding. The experience was amazing, start to finish. It is beautiful, clean and quiet. Best of all, Valerio and Paola (and their charming daughter Viola) were wonderful hosts that made us fantastic Tuscan dinners and breakfasts (upon request) in their beautiful restaurant on the premises. While we enjoyed eating, Valerio and/or Paola would provide us information on the area and what it's like to live in Tuscany (they are originally from elsewhere in Italy).
All of us who stayed here said we could have stayed longer and would love to return to stay here when we get the chance. Thank you Valerio and Paola for a fantastic time!
"Truly special! Jennifer L.6-8-2015
We just finished an amazing week at Le Ginepraie and can't wait to get back again. Valerio and Paola were gracious hosts and went far and beyond to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. Valerio scrambled around constantly to deal with our various needs, from the trivial, like medical emergencies, to critical, like wine tasting.
Paola is an amazing cook who takes great pride in her creations. The house is beautiful, and the location facilitates day trips to a variety of cities. It was exactly what we were hoping for, and indeed much more.
Over seven days, we had lunches and dinners in Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, and other wonderful cities, but the two best meals we had during the week were the dinners Paola cooked at the villa. The patio overlooking the Tuscan sunsets is a beautiful setting and Paola's cooking is extraordinary. She went out of her way to accommodate a vegetarian and a gluten allergy -- not by taking key ingredients out of an already-planned dinners but instead by creating new dishes that were wonderful in their own right. She also moved her schedule around to teach us how to make fresh pasta, and shared her recipe for amazing nutmeg ice cream! Breakfasts were wonderful and it is difficult to imagine better ways to start the days than sitting on the terrace enjoying the great spread, which included a different cake each day. Really.
The house is beautiful and the three separate areas provide lots of privacy and comfort while the common areas are plentiful and diverse, with gathering spots both inside and outside. Each wing is unique and interesting, and even though we were there during an unusual heat wave, the rooms were airy, well ventilated, and very comfortable. The bathrooms and kitchens were all modern, and the house has a dishwasher and a laundry washing machine. The internet connection was fast enough to keep us with work, although in the Tuscan countryside it will never match a big city hotel. The pool is beautiful and meticulously maintained, and became an important part of each day. And the views...spectacular.
Can't wait to get back someday -- this was truly a special place.
La vita è bella AndreNorway Oslo", Norvegia 30-07-2015
Life is good at Le Ginepraie! It is an outstanding Tuscan villa - very beautiful and picturesque, and really spacious. It's quiet and private, and really well equipped and kept. The pool and pool area is great, with excellent wi-fi connection, and it is always kept very clean. But Le Ginepraie is more than all this: The owners of Le Ginepraie, Valerio and Paola, went to every length and beyond to ensure our 110 % satisfaction. We enjoyed fantastic yoga classes with Valerio, a brilliant yoga teacher, in the garden every morning for two weeks at 7:30. On two occasions, we took cooking classes for four-course-meals-to-die-for with Paola as well, learning how to prepare, and then to savour, the most delicious pies, pasta al ragu, risotto, saltimbocca, ossobucco, and an incredible cheese cake. Absolutely recommended!
Mille grazie - until next time!
(Both the apartments on the top floor are really spacious - like executive suites)
"A dream come true!" Roger W Brooklyn, New York 13-07-2015
I would give six stars if possible. We stayed for three days and I wish it was three weeks. We definitely will return. Valerio and Paola treated are warm, friendly, professional, and committed to making the stay as perfect as possible. The location and views are spectacular. Our room was spotless, airy, comfortable, and very thoughtfully decorated. Having breakfast in the patio, staring at the quintessential western Tuscan view, we had to pinch ourselves just to make sure we weren't dreaming, especially after tasting Paola's superb tarts. The location near Volterra couldn't be better. Day trips to Siena, Lucca, and Pisa were easy - and driving in Tuscany is generally a pleasure anyway. There are several excellent restaurants nearby, so no problem going out for dinner after a long day site seeing. Volterra is a charming town well worth a visit itself. Next time, we'll spend more time at the Villa, since the pool is so inviting and we barely got to use it due to our day-tripping. Fabulous place, fantastic hosts.
"Outstanding!" Pat T El Dorado Hills, California 5-07-2015
I was one of 9 family members sharing this villa recently and can't say enough good things about it. Villa owners, Valerio and Paola were simply charming and very hospitable. Made us feel right at home. We had two dinners prepared by them at the villa which were excellent. They showed concern over any food requirements by us.
The views from this villa are simply amazing. So peaceful and restful here. Val and Paola also helped us with any special outings that we wished to do; i.e., horseback riding, wine tasting, etc.
"I want to go back already- Le Ginepraie is PARADISE" Claudia 4-4-2015
This was the perfect place for my group of 10 people. Valerio and Paola make you feel like you are at home with family members. From the moment you check in, you are home. The rooms (we called them quarters because they are so spacious) are impeccably decorated, clean and with all the amenities that we needed. Each area was like an apartment with kitchen, dining area and bathroom. The views from every angle of he Villa are amazing! we ran a few miles to catch a sunset above the village and had glimpses of deer running on the nearby field. Paola is fabulous chef, our meals were all made with local, incredibly fresh ingredients and paired with local wines topped off by Valerio's espresso. Valerio led us in a 1 hour yoga class that only complemented our stay. From Le Ginepraie we drove to Florence and to Volterra but had local guides pick us up for a wine tour, as well as a day trip to Pisa and Luca. I could go on and on with reasons that this Villa is so wonderful but that would take hours. Each day and every moment was special and the owners with their beautiful daughter Viola, are the main reason why.
"Outstanding Tuscan Villa and Restaurant" Alan B Northampton, United Kingdom 15-10-2014
What can I add to my previous review of Le Ginepraie? This was our third visit so that should be a clue to my thoughts. Another beautiful week, where even the clouds and rain could not dampen our spirits. Paola and Valerio were as helpful as ever and this year we had the opportunity to try the restaurant on our final night. A light starter of courgette flowers and tendrils fried in a tempura batter. I'd seen Valerio collecting these from his vegetable patch earlier in the day so knew they couldn't be any fresher. This was followed by the best lasagna ever. I've no idea how Paola got the pasta sheets so thin! And then a bourguignon-style venison dish with polenta served to a perfect firmness. This was grand eating but the pièce de résistance was the most wonderful dessert. To call it a cheesecake would be to demean it, but ricotta is the main ingredient. Melt-in-the-mouth and pure ambrosia. All washed down with local wines and a rare home-made hazelnut spirit. Fa-bu-lous!
I've subsequently tried making the ricotta cake. The first was OK-ish and the second much better nut neither where anywhere near Paola's. Oh well – we'll just have to go back!
"Like visiting family, only better" Ochw Southern California 2-10-2014
Le Ginepraie was the perfect location for our recent yoga trip. It offered both inside rooms for cooler morning classes and the great outdoors to take advantage of the stunning views of the Tuscan hills in the later afternoon.
The property consists of a main building where the rooms are, and a separate dining building for meals. The pool is mere steps away. A perfect location for reading, sunbathing and relaxing.
Our "room" which was more like an apartment, was pristine upon arrival and huge, with a full kitchen, living room and spacious bathroom and great shower.
Paola and Valerio served two tasty meals daily using local ingredients accompanied by local wines & spirits. My favorite dish was Paola's home made pasta with a simple tomato sauce. Her desserts were SO delicious. Paola and Valerio were amazing, generous hosts.
If you're into it, hiking and biking abound. Or if you prefer, exploring the towns nearby that are close enough to visit easily with a car.
Room Tip: They are all great, but the top two rooms are the biggest with the best views.
"Passionate Hospitality in the Heart of Tuscany" RGerman Huntington Beach, California 20-9-2014
This was our first time visiting Tuscany with a group of guests joining a "Yoga Retreat / Exploring Tuscany" Trip organized by RoxAnn Madera (yoga therapist) and myself.
We had picked "Villa Le Ginepraie" after a thorough research and we were proven right in any aspect. The villa is nestled ideally in the beautiful and quiet landscape between the lovely and history packed small towns Volterra and San Gimignano. The rooms and apartments are offering space, amenities and furniture, which make your stay pleasant and blend classic countryside architecture with present requests for comfort. A pool, numerous lounge chairs, patio furniture add to the quality and invite to relax. A big lawn and alternatively the generous living space of our apartment offered plenty of space for the yoga classes.
We had booked the villa including Breakfast and Dinner service. Offered in an adjacent building we enjoyed, seated together at a large table, the amazing variety and tasteful quality of Italian kitchen, always competent prepared and offered by our hosts Paola and her husband Valerio and often also accompanied by the lovely smile of their cute little daughter Viola.
We were impressed by the passionate hospitality of our hosts, their always considerate and helpful attitude, their great support, when one of our guests became ill. It was a true pleasure to feel Paola's and Valerio's warm and genuine friendly approach to our group. Saying good-bye, felt almost sad, as it was like parting from good friends.
We can definitely recommend to experience this great location and the hospitality of its owners to anybody who seeks either relaxation or a perfect hub to explore one of the nicest areas in Italy or as we did, enjoys to do both.
The double rooms offer plenty of space and comfort for two. The apartments offer anything you need for a longer stay, where you intend to prepare own meals, gather with accompanying friends or add more sleeping space on sofa beds
"Genuine Hospitality" Soren NW Koge 4-8-2014
From the 1-year old taking his mid day naps to the 74 year old (taking his mid day naps as well) - 3 generations, 11 people all in all, had a wonderful time at Le Ginepraie. We had the luxury of having the villa for ourselves and took advantage of the pizza making, the splendid daily breakfast + 2 delicious dinners prepared by Paola. We also enjoyed horse-back riding, a wine tour to the Bolgheri area and of course to visit the near by beautiful cities. Add to that the lovely views, the quiet location and the genuine hospitality offered by Paola, Valerio and bella Viola and it all made up an unforgettable week. We have been visiting Italy for the past 15 years and since we want to explore as many regions as possible we have the principle of never returning to the same place again. Le Ginepraie will be the exception.
PS: I recommend 2 dining experiences: The set menu at Osteria Del Duca is great and the simple food and "verbal menu" at Trattoria de Bado is as least as delicious
"Just as great the second time around" pierglas Des moines 5-7-2014
This was our second time visiting with Paola and Valerio. Since our last visit, they have welcomed a darling little girl named Viola. Both visits have been outstanding. The location is a perfect base for sightseeing if you have a car. There is plenty of room for parking the car at the Villa and it is a flat parking area as opposed to being perched on the side of hill praying that the emergency brake will hold as was our experience in some other areas. The paved roads around the villa are good but Americans used to driving larger cars would be well advised to rent smaller European models as the roads are hilly and winding and can narrow. You do have to drive a short distance into one of the nearby towns if you want a restaurant or grocery store but the views are so stunning, breath taking, and magnificent that this is a plus. You will feel like you are driving in a movie scene. In fact driving and just viewing the country side was a major pleasure during both trips. We would bring fruit, bottled water, Italian chocolate, and fresh homemade bread from one of many of the farmer's markets and stop by the side of the road to snack as we admired the bright red poppies and newly emerging grapevines. Traffic around the immediate vicinity of the villa is very light. Volterra, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Luca, Pisa, Monteriggioni are just a few of the interesting places in reasonable driving distance. This area just outside of Volterra is too far for the tour ship crowd to visit so it is particularly quiet and peaceful compared to some of the interesting historical sites that have more tourists than Italians. Be aware of the tour ship schedules and organize your side trips around when the tourists are returning to their ships if you want to avoid crowds. If you are history buffs like we are, you will be very impressed with the wealth of opportunity to explore Etruscan, Roman, and medieval sites.
Our hosts welcomed us back and made us feel like friends returning. They are always very helpful when you need them and yet very careful not to invade your privacy. Don't hesitate to ask their advice as they are very knowledgeable about the area and delight in pleasing their guests. We love their Sunflower suite. In the mornings, you can make your own Italian breakfasts in your private kitchen and watch the sun come up between the Italian cypress trees. During the day, you can go to the markets and bring back the ingredients to make a feast of fresh pasta, olives, and antipasto as the sun sets on the gorgeous Tuscan hills . For an even closer view, take advantage of picnicking on the wooden table at the back of the villa.
Even though the villa dates from the 17th century, the apartments are remodeled with all the luxuries of a modern day home. The bathroom and shower are first class and spacious. Plenty of hot water is available and the kitchen is well stocked with the normal items needed to cook and feed a family. Our apartment was spotless and in immaculate shape on both visits. We like having all of the historical atmosphere without having to sacrifice comfort.
On our first trip, we accidentally scheduled this as our last stay before departing back to the states. This time, we scheduled it last on purpose because we remembered the peaceful, quiet relaxed experience that let us return to our Iowa home feeling refreshed rather than drained. After our stay at Villa Le Ginepraie, we again returned rested and relaxed. As senior citizens who like to travel, we have had the opportunity to stay in many settings. This is our all time favorite. We will definitely return.
"Well deserving of the reviews" yadkin Concord, NC 3-7-2014
There's a very good reason that there are no reviews of this place less than "Very Good" - everything about it is perfect. I'm not sure i can say anything that hasn't already been said, but i would echo all of the comments about the natural beauty, the impeccable hospitality of Valerio and Paola, the amenities of the villa, etc. Our family stayed in the Alabaster Apartment along with the connecting Green Room and had a wonderful stay. From the moment we met the hosts, we felt like family house guests. They are so welcoming and accommodating of every request. The location is amazing, as we were able to day trip to Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Lucca and many other beautiful cities, and still come home to the peace and quiet of Le Genepraie and its amazing sunsets. We took an early morning yoga class with Valerio and made pasta and pesto with Paola, biked the hills and walked the fields. We were sad to leave, and felt like we were saying goodbye to family. We find ourselves wishing we were back at the Villa and look forward to the day when we can return.
The Alabaster and Green rooms are connected and perfect for a family.
"Fantastic time in a beautiul location" Samuel S 5-6-2014
We've just come back from a glorious week spent with friends at Villa Le Ginepraie. The hospitality shown by Paola and Valerio prior to our departure and whilst we were there was second to none (be it a fantastic 5 course Tuscan dinner cooked by Paola to helping with taxis to and from wedding venues). Villa Le Ginepraie is set within the Tuscan Hills with the pool having the most incredible views. The location means its easily accessible from both Pisa and Florence. Our highlights included having our own pizza night at the villa using the outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. As the night progressed our pizza making skills got better and better (or was that he great local wine!). Thank you for a wonderful time and we hope to see you again in the future. Rgds, Sam
"Slice of Heaven" Macandilondon London 22-5-2014
3 families, each with a baby under one, spent a week at Villa Le Ginepraie and it was utterly incredible. Paola and Valerio are the fantastic hosts, in the run up to the trip they were super helpful and then once we arrived, although they live on the property, a short walk from the Villa, they have mastered the art of discretion; we were not aware that they were around and yet if we needed anything they were there and went the extra mile to ensure our needs were met.
The setting of Villa Le Ginepraie is stunning, we felt like we had our own slice of Tuscany; rolling hills; big, blazing sunsets and endless blue skies by day. We were early in the season and so the pool was a little 'fresh' but we were still happy to take a dip. The location is perfect for day trips - we took in San Gimingano and Sienna and the local produce stores were great.
Highlights for us were the meals cooked by Paola - we had the joy of 3 nights at the Villa's private restaurant. Utterly delicious and unforgettable meals which were complimented by the warmth and hospitality of Valerio, Paola and their charming daughter Viola.
Valerio booked horse riding and accompanied the riders to the stable and booked a masseuse for massages, always incredibly helpful, he truly made us feel like nothing was too much trouble.
If you stay I would also highly recommend making use of the wood fired pizza oven - it was a highlight of our stay.
Incredibly good value for money and all 3 families have agreed that we will return again.
If I had to pick a fault I would say that the directions on the website could be improved.
Grazie Paola, Valerio & Viola!
"So much to love about Villa Ginepraie" Bebhinn C Melbourne, Australia 4-5-2014
Our family of 2 adults and 2 children rented the farmhouse in mid-April for 10 days.
In the lead up to our holiday, our hosts were endlessly helpful and upon arrival Paola and Valerio continued to make our Tuscan adventure a seamless one.
The accommodation was spacious and comfortable, the kitchen well stocked with a surplus of crockery, cutlery and cookware, the bathrooms modern and the fireplace much used in the brisk April evenings.
The surrounding hilly outlook was like a postcard and exactly as we imagined Tuscany to be with days ending with blazing sunsets.
Villa Ginepraie is well located for day trips to Volterra and San Gimignano - driving around the winding roads of Tuscany for the uninitiated is... well... interesting.
Our stay was a little pre-season for Tuscany and Valerio went to great lengths to help us find an available Horse Riding stable that was open and that would accommodate our young children. He even drove there with us and served as translator which was immensely helpful.
Discovered too late was the delicious food that will be prepared by Paola on request in the restaurant adjacent to the villa. We only had lunch at Ginepraie once, it was our favourite meal of our stay - the chocolate fondant was divinity on a plate!
The weather was not warm enough for the pool - it just sat there, taunting us, goading us to come back again some day at a warmer time. We might just do that!
"Very nice farmhouse, friendly host!" Lamhk Hong Kong, Cina 5-11-2013
It's our first time to stay in a farmhouse and we found that experience so special. You feel you have a small slope on your own& enjoy the space and open view of the farms & cypress. The host is very friendly & helpful, the breakfast is exceptionally good & prepared with heart. We enjoyed our stay very much & we miss the cat there. Highly recommend.
"What a special place, Villa le Ginepraie - So wonderful!" thewayIseeit North of Toronto 8-10-2013
Villa le Ginepraie is what all the others have already stated.
Val and Paola are so sincere and genuine that you feel like family. They do give you space so you feel like you have the whole place to yourself, but if you need to knock on their door they drop everything to assist you with your needs.
We had a private tour of the whole place, and every room is wonderful. The beds are very spacious (king size) and the rooms even bigger. All bathrooms are perfectly arranged and modern. The house is authentic Tuscan farm style, however everything is modern necessities. The feel of old (original ceilings, windows and doors) mixed with brand new counters, beds, showers, etc. So amazing!
The villa is out in the country side, so it is quiet and relaxing. Complete serenity. 5 mins drive is a little villa with a bottega and small bar but you can stop in and pick up necessities. Volterra and San Giminagno are within 20 min drive and they are beautiful!
My family (parents and husband) stayed for a week while traveling through Europe and we wish we had a least one more week to relax and enjoy.
Valerio and Paola are fantastic hosts! Stay here and you will find yourself writing a 5 star review in no time.
"Our trip to Tuscany "Peter D Rockville Centre New York 28-9-2013
We planned this trip in early summer. Val, the owner, with his wife Paola, were very helpful answering questions prior to booking our trip. We were a group of 10, and with very different personalities, the questions reflected that. Val answered all questions, politely and quickly. The Villa lives up to the photos and it's offerings. Both Val and Paola treated us like family and not guests. They were helpful in planning our short trips in the region and calling ahead to guarantee a table and a good reception at local restaurants. Paola prepared one fabulous meal for us and the party continued all week. I can only recommend Le Ginepraie as one of the most restful and beautiful vacations we have ever taken. Wish we had more time to sight see and relax at the pool. It will have to wait till next time.
"Once in a lifetime vacation"ROSE C Denver Colorado 25-9-2013
This is a must stop for anyone wanting a superior experience in Tuscany. The villa is outrageously beautiful, set among green rolling hills that you could swear were taken from a postcard. The hosts, Val and Paola, and their adorable daughter Viola, were the most welcoming of Italian ambassadors; they willingly gave of their time, their experience and their warmth. They directed us to local restaurants, one of which we ate at three times during our one week stay because it was so good. They were patient beyond belief with our questions and need for directions! We enjoyed their suggestions for sight seeing and wine tasting more than we could have imagined. They made this 'once in a lifetime vacation' a true 'once in a lifetime experience'.
"A Beautiful Place to Stay in Tuscany" Piano1man Merrick, New York, United States 25-9-2013
Villa le Ginepraie is amazing. The facilities are unmatched . Many rooms are suites with full kitchens, lounge areas and beautiful bathrooms. The countryside where it is located is incredible.
I have been to many countries and Tuscany is by far the most beautiful of all.
Even more than the villa itself, the owners Paola and Val couldn't be any nicer. Paola is a wonderful chef (I taught culinary arts for 8 years) and provided us with an evening of a dinner that was excellent in every respect. I just can't say enough good things about our time there. If you are looking for a fantastic experience in Tuscany you won't go wrong if you stay at Villa le Ginepraie! One last thing, if you are into Yoga, speak to Val who was trained in India. Some of our friends took advantage of this one morning by the pool.
“The "yellow room" was very beautiful and had a great lounge area. So did the "Persian" room.”
