Nestled within the Berignone Nature Reserve, the Masso delle Fanciulle (Maidens’ Rock) is one of Tuscany’s most enchanting and unspoiled destinations — ideal for those seeking relaxation in nature and a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Cecina River.
A Journey Through Nature and Legend
The name of this magical place is rooted in a local legend: it is said that three young women, fleeing the abuse of a cruel squire, threw themselves from the boulder into the river below.
Today, this secluded spot is a peaceful haven where myth, nature, and serenity blend into a deeply rejuvenating experience, far from the crowds and noise of mass tourism.
How to Reach the Maidens’ Rock
Starting from our Tuscan Villa, you’ll enjoy a scenic drive through the rolling countryside. After crossing the iron bridge on the road to Pomarance, continue for about 10 minutes across a plain, then turn right onto a dirt road leading toward the Cecina River.
Park your car and wade across the river, then follow a trail through lush greenery for about 20 minutes until you reach the forest. From here, the path leads back down to the riverbank, where you’ll find several beautiful spots to stop for a swim or simply relax by the water.
Continue along the path and you’ll reach the Masso delle Fanciulle, where a small beach shaded by trees awaits on the opposite bank — the perfect place for a picnic or a quiet moment immersed in nature.
