Nestled in the heart of the Montenero Nature Reserve, just minutes from our Villa in Tuscany, lie the picturesque Montenero Lakes — an ideal destination for those seeking an authentic experience surrounded by unspoiled nature and crystal-clear waters.
A Hidden Paradise in the Reserve
These three small lakes, tucked between rocky outcrops and lush vegetation, are fed by a natural waterfall that creates an enchanting atmosphere. Perfect for a refreshing swim or a moment of pure relaxation, the lakes invite you to unwind in the peaceful embrace of nature.
How to Reach the Lakes
The Montenero Lakes are located along the Route of Villas and Parishes, a historical and natural trail that passes through medieval villages and ancient churches. You can reach them by bike, on horseback, or with a short 10-minute drive from the villa.
The Montenero Loop: A Trek Through Nature and Time
For a more immersive experience, follow the Montenero Loop, a scenic trail that takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete. Starting near Villa Scopicci, the path winds past waterfalls and small lakes, crosses a stream, and ascends toward Podere Uliveto.
From there, the trail leads to the Fonte del Latte, an ancient spring surrounded by legend — once believed to have healing properties, especially for expectant mothers. A bit further along, you’ll reach the evocative ruins of the Church of San Giovanni Battista alla Nera, an 11th-century Romanesque church steeped in history and silence.
An Unforgettable Experience of Water, History, and Views
Whether you’re in the mood for a light hike, a refreshing swim, or a more adventurous trek, the Montenero Lakes offer a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of authentic Tuscany.
A hidden gem where nature, history, and breathtaking scenery come together — just steps from Villa Le Ginepraie.
