We had an amazing time here. Valerio and Paola were the best hosts and the house was fantastic. There were 2 families staying (10 in total) and the house had plenty of room for all of us. There are lots of lovely walks around the villa and it is close to both volterra and San gimignano
We'd also recommend the home cooked meal. The food (Paola) and service (Valerio) were superb and it was fun watching the meal being cooked.
It's also a very child friendly house
We will be back !!!!

What a fabulous villa - so well located and comfortable. We (two families of 5) booked the whole villa for a week in April 2016. Valerio and Paola were wonderful hosts, definitely recommend Paola's cooking - her meal (all day spent preparing) was amazing. Plenty of beautiful walks and day trips, very close to San Gimignano and even closer to Volterra - a delightful town. Borgo Pignano is a short stroll away, perfect for an afternoon drink, although it's hard to leave Villa Le Ginepraie! There are indoor and outdoor dining options depending on the weather, all with glorious views. Kitchen facilities were great, including pizza oven. Kids loved having space to run around and kick a ball, or laze with a book by the pool after city sightseeing.
Thank you again Valerio and Paola - would definitely recommend to anyone, such a special and memorable week. We hope to return one day!

We spent a marvellous week in Le Ginepraie, so close to Pisa, Firenze, San Giminiano, and other places to be seen : Abbazia di Monte Oliveto, terme de Saturnia,…
This wide house is located on the top of a hill, with a splendid view on t the quiet surrounding : fields and forests. No noise to be disturbed :neither car, plane or barking dog, only deer crossing the fields :it’s a reserve for wild animals.
And in this protected nature we found many pathes for walking or running.
The house is perfectly renovated, spotlessly clean, well equiped even for a large family, with comfortable beds.
Though we were in October, the external temperature was agreable, even if we appreciated reading by the fireplace at night.
And it was a great pleasure to meet Paola and Valerio : they are so kind, so helpfull, giving us as often as needed ideas for walking, adresses of shops in Firenze and places to buy good wines and oil.
We highly recommend you this perfect adress.

Friends of mine rented out the entire place and invited me to stay here with them for their wedding. The experience was amazing, start to finish. It is beautiful, clean and quiet. Best of all, Valerio and Paola (and their charming daughter Viola) were wonderful hosts that made us fantastic Tuscan dinners and breakfasts (upon request) in their beautiful restaurant on the premises. While we enjoyed eating, Valerio and/or Paola would provide us information on the area and what it's like to live in Tuscany (they are originally from elsewhere in Italy).
All of us who stayed here said we could have stayed longer and would love to return to stay here when we get the chance. Thank you Valerio and Paola for a fantastic time!

villa was spotless, large and comfortable"Truly special!" Jennifer L.

We just finished an amazing week at Le Ginepraie and can't wait to get back again. Valerio and Paola were gracious hosts and went far and beyond to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. Valerio scrambled around constantly to deal with our various needs, from the trivial, like medical emergencies, to critical, like wine tasting.
Paola is an amazing cook who takes great pride in her creations. The house is beautiful, and the location facilitates day trips to a variety of cities. It was exactly what we were hoping for, and indeed much more.
Over seven days, we had lunches and dinners in Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, and other wonderful cities, but the two best meals we had during the week were the dinners Paola cooked at the villa. The patio overlooking the Tuscan sunsets is a beautiful setting and Paola's cooking is extraordinary. She went out of her way to accommodate a vegetarian and a gluten allergy -- not by taking key ingredients out of an already-planned dinners but instead by creating new dishes that were wonderful in their own right. She also moved her schedule around to teach us how to make fresh pasta, and shared her recipe for amazing nutmeg ice cream! Breakfasts were wonderful and it is difficult to imagine better ways to start the days than sitting on the terrace enjoying the great spread, which included a different cake each day. Really.
The house is beautiful and the three separate areas provide lots of privacy and comfort while the common areas are plentiful and diverse, with gathering spots both inside and outside. Each wing is unique and interesting, and even though we were there during an unusual heat wave, the rooms were airy, well ventilated, and very comfortable. The bathrooms and kitchens were all modern, and the house has a dishwasher and a laundry washing machine. The internet connection was fast enough to keep us with work, although in the Tuscan countryside it will never match a big city hotel. The pool is beautiful and meticulously maintained, and became an important part of each day. And the views...spectacular.
Can't wait to get back someday -- this was truly a special place

Life is good at Le Ginepraie! It is an outstanding Tuscan villa - very beautiful and picturesque, and really spacious. It's quiet and private, and really well equipped and kept. The pool and pool area is great, with excellent wi-fi connection, and it is always kept very clean. But Le Ginepraie is more than all this: The owners of Le Ginepraie, Valerio and Paola, went to every length and beyond to ensure our 110 % satisfaction. We enjoyed fantastic yoga classes with Valerio, a brilliant yoga teacher, in the garden every morning for two weeks at 7:30. On two occasions, we took cooking classes for four-course-meals-to-die-for with Paola as well, learning how to prepare, and then to savour, the most delicious pies, pasta al ragu, risotto, saltimbocca, ossobucco, and an incredible cheese cake. Absolutely recommended!
Mille grazie - until next time!
(Both the appartments on the top floor are really spacious - like executive suites)

Villa Toscane“A dream come true!”

I would give six stars if possible. We stayed for three days and I wish it was three weeks. We definitely will return. Valerio and Paola treated are warm, friendly, professional, and committed to making the stay as perfect as possible. The location and views are spectacular. Our room was spotless, airy, comfortable, and very thoughtfully decorated. Having breakfast in the patio, staring at the quintessential western Tuscan view, we had to pinch ourselves just to make sure we weren't dreaming, especially after tasting Paola's superb tarts. The location near Volterra couldn't be better. Day trips to Siena, Lucca, and Pisa were easy - and driving in Tuscany is generally a pleasure anyway. There are several excellent restaurants nearby, so no problem going out for dinner after a long day site seeing. Volterra is a charming town well worth a visit itself. Next time, we'll spend more time at the Villa, since the pool is so inviting and we barely got to use it due to our day-tripping. Fabulous place, fantastic hosts.

I was one of 9 family members sharing this villa recently and can't say enough good things about it. Villa owners, Valerio and Paola were simply charming and very hospitable. Made us feel right at home. We had two dinners prepared by them at the villa which were excellent. They showed concern over any food requirements by us.
The views from this villa are simply amazing. So peaceful and restful here. Val and Paola also helped us with any special outings that we wished to do; i.e., horseback riding, wine tasting, etc.

logo homelidays“I want to go back already- Le Ginepraie is PARADISE”

This was the perfect place for my group of 10 people. Valerio and Paola make you feel like you are at home with family members. From the moment you check in, you are home. The rooms ( we called them quarters because they are so spacious) are impeccably decorated, clean and with all the amenities that we needed. Each area was like an apartment with kitchen, dining area and bathroom. The views from every angle of he Villa are amazing! we ran a few miles to catch a sunset above the village and had glimpses of deer running on the nearby field. Paola is fabulous chef, our meals were all made with local, incredibly fresh ingredients and paired with local wines topped off by Valerio's espresso. Valerio led us in a 1 hour yoga class that only complemented our stay. From Le Ginepraie we drove to Florence and to Volterra but had local guides pick us up for a wine tour, as well as a day trip to Pisa and Luca. I could go on and on with reasons that this Villa is so wonderful but that would take hours. Each day and every moment was special and the owners with their beautiful daughter Viola, are the main reason why.

Villa Toscane“Outstanding Tuscan Villa and Restaurant”

What can I add to my previous review of Le Ginepraie? This was our third visit so that should be a clue to my thoughts. Another beautiful week, where even the clouds and rain could not dampen our spirits. Paola and Valerio were as helpful as ever and this year we had the opportunity to try the restaurant on our final night. A light starter of courgette flowers and tendrils fried in a tempura batter. I'd seen Valerio collecting these from his vegetable patch earlier in the day so knew they couldn't be any fresher. This was followed by the best lasagna ever. I've no idea how Paola got the pasta sheets so thin! And then a bourguignon-style venison dish with polenta served to a perfect firmness. This was grand eating but the pièce de résistance was the most wonderful dessert. To call it a cheesecake would be to demean it, but ricotta is the main ingredient. Melt-in-the-mouth and pure ambrosia. All washed down with local wines and a rare home-made hazelnut spirit. Fa-bu-lous!
I've subsequently tried making the ricotta cake. The first was OK-ish and the second much better nut neither where anywhere near Paola's. Oh well – we'll just have to go back!

Villa Toscane“Like visiting family, only better”

Southern California

Le Ginepraie was the perfect location for our recent yoga trip. It offered both inside rooms for cooler morning classes and the great outdoors to take advantage of the stunning views of the Tuscan hills in the later afternoon.
The property consists of a main building where the rooms are, and a separate dining building for meals. The pool is mere steps away. A perfect location for reading, sunbathing and relaxing.
Our "room" which was more like an apartment, was pristine upon arrival and huge, with a full kitchen, living room and spacious bathroom and great shower.
Paola and Valerio served two tasty meals daily using local ingredients accompanied by local wines & spirits. My favorite dish was Paola's home made pasta with a simple tomato sauce. Her desserts were SO delicious. Paola and Valerio were amazing, generous hosts.
If you're into it, hiking and biking abound. Or if you prefer, exploring the towns nearby that are close enough to visit easily with a car.
Room Tip: They are all great, but the top two rooms are the biggest with the best views.

Villa Toscane“Passionate Hospitality in the Heart of Tuscany”

Huntington Beach, California

This was our first time visiting Tuscany with a group of guests joining a "Yoga Retreat / Exploring Tuscany" Trip organized by RoxAnn Madera (yoga therapist) and myself.
We had picked "Villa Le Ginepraie " after a thorough research and we were proven right in any aspect. The villa is nestled ideally in the beautiful and quiet landscape between the lovely and history packed small towns Volterra and San Gimignano. The rooms and apartments are offering space, amenities and furniture, which make your stay pleasant and blend classic countryside architecture with present requests for comfort. A pool, numerous lounge chairs, patio furniture add to the quality and invite to relax. A big lawn and alternatively the generous living space of our apartment offered plenty of space for the yoga classes.
We had booked the villa including Breakfast and Dinner service. Offered in an adjacent building we enjoyed, seated together at a large table, the amazing variety and tasteful quality of Italian kitchen, always competent prepared and offered by our hosts Paola and her husband Valerio and often also accompanied by the lovely smile of their cute little daughter Viola.
We were impressed by the passionate hospitality of our hosts, their always considerate and helpful attitude, their great support, when one of our guests became ill. It was a true pleasure to feel Paola's and Valerio's warm and genuine friendly approach to our group. Saying good-bye, felt almost sad, as it was like parting from good friends.
We can definitely recommend to experience this great location and the hospitality of its owners to anybody who seeks either relaxation or a perfect hub to explore one of the nicest areas in Italy or as we did, enjoys to do both.
The double rooms offer plenty of space and comfort for two. The apartments offer anything you need for a longer stay, where you intend to prepare own meals, gather with accompanying friends or add more sleeping space on sofa beds

Villa Toscane“Genuine Hospitality”

From the 1-year old taking his mid day naps to the 74 year old (taking his mid day naps as well) - 3 generations, 11 people all in all, had a wonderful time at Le Ginepraie. We had the luxury of having the villa for ourselves and took advantage of the pizza making, the splendid daily breakfast + 2 delicious dinners prepared by Paola. We also enjoyed horse-back riding, a wine tour to the Bolgheri area and of course to visit the near by beatiful cities. Add to that the lovely views, the quiet location and the genuine hospitality offered by Paola, Valerio and bella Viola and it all made up an unforgettable week. We have been visiting Italy for the past 15 years and since we want to explore as many regions as possible we have the principle of never returning to the same place again. Le Ginepraie will be the exception.
PS: I recommend 2 dining experiences: The set menu at Osteria Del Duca is great and the simple food and "verbal menu" at Trattoria de Bado is as least as delicious

Villa Toscane“Just as great the second time around”

Des moines

This was our second time visiting with Paola and Valerio. Since our last visit, they have welcomed a darling little girl named Viola. Both visits have been outstanding. The location is a perfect base for sightseeing if you have a car. There is plenty of room for parking the car at the Villa and it is a flat parking area as opposed to being perched on the side of hill praying that the emergency brake will hold as was our experience in some other areas. The paved roads around the villa are good but Americans used to driving larger cars would be well advised to rent smaller European models as the roads are hilly and winding and can narrow. You do have to drive a short distance into one of the nearby towns if you want a restaurant or grocery store but the views are so stunning, breath taking, and magnificent that this is a plus. You will feel like you are driving in a movie scene. In fact driving and just viewing the country side was a major pleasure during both trips. We would bring fruit, bottled water, Italian chocolate, and fresh homemade bread from one of many of the farmer's markets and stop by the side of the road to snack as we admired the bright red poppies and newly emerging grapevines. Traffic around the immediate vicinity of the villa is very light. Volterra, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Luca, Pisa, Monteriggioni are just a few of the interesting places in reasonable driving distance. This area just outside of Volterra is too far for the tour ship crowd to visit so it is particularly quiet and peaceful compared to some of the interesting historical sites that have more tourists than Italians. Be aware of the tour ship schedules and organize your side trips around when the tourists are returning to their ships if you want to avoid crowds. If you are history buffs like we are, you will be very impressed with the wealth of opportunity to explore Etruscan, Roman, and medieval sites.
Our hosts welcomed us back and made us feel like friends returning. They are always very helpful when you need them and yet very careful not to invade your privacy. Don't hesitate to ask their advice as they are very knowledgeable about the area and delight in pleasing their guests. We love their Sunflower suite. In the mornings, you can make your own Italian breakfasts in your private kitchen and watch the sun come up between the Italian cypress trees. During the day, you can go to the markets and bring back the ingredients to make a feast of fresh pasta, olives, and antipasto as the sun sets on the gorgeous Tuscan hills . For an even closer view, take advantage of picnicking on the wooden table at the back of the villa.
Even though the villa dates from the 17th century, the apartments are remodeled with all the luxuries of a modern day home. The bathroom and shower are first class and spacious. Plenty of hot water is available and the kitchen is well stocked with the normal items needed to cook and feed a family. Our apartment was spotless and in immaculate shape on both visits. We like having all of the historical atmosphere without having to sacrifice comfort.
On our first trip, we accidentally scheduled this as our last stay before departing back to the states. This time, we scheduled it last on purpose because we remembered the peaceful, quiet relaxed experience that let us return to our Iowa home feeling refreshed rather than drained. After our stay at Villa Le Ginepraie, we again returned rested and relaxed. As senior citizens who like to travel, we have had the opportunity to stay in many settings. This is our all time favorite. We will definitely return.

logo tripadvisor“Well deserving of the reviews”

Concord, NC

There's a very good reason that there are no reviews of this place less than "Very Good" - everything about it is perfect. I'm not sure i can say anything that hasn't already been said, but i would echo all of the comments about the natural beauty, the impeccable hospitality of Valerio and Paola, the amenities of the villa, etc. Our family stayed in the Alabaster Apartment along with the connecting Green Room and had a wonderful stay. From the moment we met the hosts, we felt like family house guests. They are so welcoming and accommodating of every request. The location is amazing, as we were able to day trip to Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Lucca and many other beautiful cities, and still come home to the peace and quiet of Le Genepraie and its amazing sunsets. We took an early morning yoga class with Valerio and made pasta and pesto with Paola, biked the hills and walked the fields. We were sad to leave, and felt like we were saying goodbye to family. We find ourselves wishing we were back at the Villa and look forward to the day when we can return.
The Alabaster and Green rooms are connected and perfect for a family.

We've just come back from a glorious week spent with friends at Villa Le Ginepraie. The hospitality shown by Paola and Valerio prior to our departure and whilst we were there was second to none (be it a fantastic 5 course Tuscan dinner cooked by Paola to helping with taxis to and from wedding venues). Villa Le Ginepraie is set within the Tuscan Hills with the pool having the most incredible views. The location means its easily accessible from both Pisa and Florence. Our highlights included having our own pizza night at the villa using the outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. As the night progressed our pizza making skills got better and better (or was that he great local wine!). Thank you for a wonderful time and we hope to see you again in the future. Rgds, Sam

logo tripadvisor“Slice of Heaven”

3 families, each with a baby under one, spent a week at Villa Le Ginepraie and it was utterly incredible. Paola and Valerio are the fantastic hosts, in the run up to the trip they were super helpful and then once we arrived, although they live on the property, a short walk from the Villa, they have mastered the art of discretion; we were not aware that they were around and yet if we needed anything they were there and went the extra mile to ensure our needs were met.
The setting of Villa Le Ginepraie is stunning, we felt like we had our own slice of Tuscany; rolling hills; big, blazing sunsets and endless blue skies by day. We were early in the season and so the pool was a little 'fresh' but we were still happy to take a dip. The location is perfect for day trips - we took in San Gimingano and Sienna and the local produce stores were great.
Highlights for us were the meals cooked by Paola - we had the joy of 3 nights at the Villa's private restaurant. Utterly delicious and unforgettable meals which were complimented by the warmth and hospitality of Valerio, Paola and their charming daughter Viola.
Valerio booked horse riding and accompanied the riders to the stable and booked a masseuse for massages, always incredibly helpful, he truly made us feel like nothing was too much trouble.
If you stay I would also highly recommend making use of the wood fired pizza oven - it was a highlight of our stay.
Incredibly good value for money and all 3 families have agreed that we will return again.
If I had to pick a fault I would say that the directions on the website could be improved.
Grazie Paola, Valerio & Viola!

Our family of 2 adults and 2 children rented the farmhouse in mid-April for 10 days.
In the lead up to our holiday, our hosts were endlessly helpful and upon arrival Paola and Valerio continued to make our Tuscan adventure a seamless one.
The accommodation was spacious and comfortable, the kitchen well stocked with a surplus of crockery, cutlery and cookware, the bathrooms modern and the fireplace much used in the brisk April evenings.
The surrounding hilly outlook was like a postcard and exactly as we imagined Tuscany to be with days ending with blazing sunsets.
Villa Ginepraie is well located for day trips to Volterra and San Gimignano - driving around the winding roads of Tuscany for the uninitiated is... well... interesting.
Our stay was a little pre-season for Tuscany and Valerio went to great lengths to help us find an available Horse Riding stable that was open and that would accommodate our young children. He even drove there with us and served as translator which was immensely helpful.
Discovered too late was the delicious food that will be prepared by Paola on request in the restaurant adjacent to the villa. We only had lunch at Ginepraie once, it was our favourite meal of our stay -- the chocolate fondant was divinity on a plate!
The weather was not warm enough for the pool - it just sat there, taunting us, goading us to come back again some day at a warmer time. We might just do that!

It’s our first time to stay in a farmhouse and we found that experience so special. You feel you have a small slope on your own & enjoy the space and open view of the farms & cypress. The host is very friendly & helpful, the breakfast is exceptionally good & prepared with heart. We enjoyed our stay very much & we miss the cat there. Highly recommend.

North of Toronto

Villa le Ginepraie is what all the others have already stated.
Val and Paola are so sincere and genuine that you feel like family. They do give you space so you feel like you have the whole place to yourself, but if you need to knock on their door they drop everything to assist you with your needs.
We had a private tour of the whole place, and every room is wonderful. The beds are very spacious (king size) and the rooms even bigger. All bathrooms are perfectly arranged and modern. The house is authentic Tuscan farm style, however everything is modern necessities. The feel of old (original ceilings, windows and doors) mixed with brand new counters, beds, showers, etc. So amazing!
The villa is out in the country side, so it is quiet and relaxing. Complete serenity. 5 mins drive is a little villa with a bottega and small bar but you can stop in and pick up necessities. Volterra and San Giminagno are within 20 min drive and they are beautiful!
My family (parents and husband) stayed for a week while traveling through Europe and we wish we had a least one more week to relax and enjoy.
Valerio and Paola are fantastic hosts! Stay here and you will find yourself writing a 5 star review in no time.

We planned this trip in early summer. Val, the owner, with his wife Paola, were very helpful answering questions prior to booking our trip. We were a group of 10, and with very different personalities, the questions reflected that. Val answered all questions, politely and quickly. The Villa lives up to the photos and it's offerings. Both Val and Paola treated us like family and not guests. They were helpful in planning our short trips in the region and calling ahead to guarantee a table and a good reception at local restaurants. Paola prepared one fabulous meal for us and the party continued all week. I can only recommend Le Ginepraie as one of the most restful and beautiful vacations we have ever taken. Wish we had more time to sight see and relax at the pool. It will have to wait till next time.

This is a must stop for anyone wanting a superior experience in Tuscany. The villa is outrageously beautiful, set among green rolling hills that you could swear were taken from a postcard. The hosts, Val and Paola, and their adorable daughter Viola, were the most welcoming of Italian ambassadors; they willingly gave of their time, their experience and their warmth. They directed us to local restaurants, one of which we ate at three times during our one week stay because it was so good. They were patient beyond belief with our questions and need for directions! We enjoyed their suggestions for sight seeing and wine tasting more than we could have imagined. They made this 'once in a lifetime vacation' a true 'once in a lifetime experience'.

Villa le Ginepraie is amazing. The facilities are unmatched . Many rooms are suites with full kitchens, lounge areas and beautiful bathrooms. The countryside where it is located is incredible.
I have been to many countries and Tuscany is by far the most beautiful of all.
Even more than the villa itself, the owners Paola and Val couldn't be any nicer. Paola is a wonderful chef (I taught culinary arts for 8 years) and provided us with an evening of a dinner that was excellent in every respect. I just can't say enough good things about our time there. If you are looking for a fantastic experience in Tuscany you won't go wrong if you stay at Villa le Ginepraie! One last thing, if you are into Yoga, speak to Val who was trained in India. Some of our friends took advantage of this one morning by the pool.
“The "yellow room" was very beautiful and had a great lounge area. So did the "Persian" room.”

Everything was perfect, the villa, the pool,...Do not hesitate to rent it, the hosts are so charming.
just one thing not to mention: there is no internet connection so do not forget to prepare you trip and visits in advance

We spent the most wonderful week at this delightful villa. It is more like a hotel in its standard of accommodation - large rooms, comfy beds, well-equipped kitchens, large showers, everything pristine clean. The owners who live close by are the most wonderful and welcoming hosts; polite, charming, full of useful information about the locality. Paola's cooking is sensational. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They have managed to achieve a perfect balance between remaining out of sight but being there when you want or need them. There is so much for children to do and so much for adults to explore nearby; the gardens too are beautifully tended and the pool area is perfect. Situated halfway between the two stunning towns of Volterra and San Gimignano. I could not say enough good things about Villa le Ginepraie. A wonderful welcome and experience awaits you.

Our family of six adults stayed in The Villa Ginepraie for a week in June 2013 .I find it hard to put into words how beautiful it was. The pictures on the web site are all true but they cannot possibly do it justice. It is all so much better ,the decor , the pool, the wonderful country side is amazing. We rented the whole villa for the six of us and found each apartment was very big and contained everything needed. We would visit lovely little towns like Volterra,Lucca,Siena, and Pisa which are all only a short drive away then come back to the peaceful villa for a swim in the late afternoon. Paola and Valerio and their beautiful little daughter were delightful and helpful hosts and the dinner Paola cooked for us was delicious .This was a holiday we will all remember as one of the best ever . Picture book countryside ,lovely villa, towns and little resterants close by .It is truly a Tuscan paradise. Hopefully one day we will be able to return. Thank you Paola and Valerio.

We celebrated my 60 th birthday with 10 family members: with the three boys of us and their wonderful girlfriends and another young couple.
The villa was the perfect setting for our holiday, situated in the lovely tuscany countryside; at several evenings we could watch deers coming out of the forrest to feed on the grass just a few hundered meters away.
The large pool was a steasdy source for fun, well maintained by Valerio who was our outstanding landlord: he was a perfect resource of advice for our trips and activities ( horse riding, trapp shooting, restaurants, wine tasting....) Valerio and Paola were the most wonderful hosts, very decent, always helpfull and full of Italian spirit and humour. The secret extra was the most lovely tomcat we ever met:it strolled over to us and became part of our family in this week
The Villa is very well equipped with all kind of kitchen devices so it was very enjoyable to prepare the meals for even this large group.
Valerio took care for a good supply on firewood so we could use the three fire chimneys at several romantic evening sessions, and we had additional access to a barbecue , we even tried once to bake pizza ( with limited success)
The spacious ground was perfect for all kind of sport activities like volleyball or speedminton, during our stay there was not as much wind as we expected from the villas video ( even our skite did not work)
The area arround the Villa is less populated than the southern part of Tuscany, so it may take arround 15 minutes for the shopping in Volterra or San Gimingiano , we visited additionally Pisa , Firenze, Livorno and Lucca and some of our youngsters made a trip to the sea.
We had a really exceptionnaly nice holiday - the wonderful hosts , the spacious and well kept villa and the calm environement was for us the perfect setting. We will recommend this villa to our friends - and say "millelgracie " to our outstanding italian couple Valerio and Paola

Stayed in the Villa le Ginepraie for a week in August and had a fantastic time. We shared the villa with our friends and both families enjoyed a great holiday. The villa is situated just off the beaten track a few kilometres from Volterra in Tuscany, on a peaceful rolling tuscan hill, but it is easy to reach Volterra, Siena or St Gigmangno. It really is the Tuscany you see in all the brochures.
The villa is beautifully appointed and decorated but very easy to live in and it has a large pool that our children loved. Both families have teenage children.
The villa was well equipped, as we had the whole villa we had a choice of kitchens! The whole place is very clean, tidy and well maintained
Valerio and Paola are excellent hosts, helpful when you need it, but never obtrusive and they speak good english.
There are plenty of restaurants in the area, wine tasting, olive oil tasting, local sights and events to keep you busy if you want to. Try to visit the eccentric cheese maker nearby he is a real character.
We very much hope to go back again one day.

I absolutely loved this place. Valerio and Paola have a truly remarkable Tuscan experience to share--private dirt road, pristine pool overlooking rolling hills, a lovely breakfast cottage and a perfect location between Volterra and San Gigmangno. My family of 5 stayed in the sunflower room which was spotless and very comfortable. The kitchen had wine and water for us on arrival. Valerio would make a breakfast every morning for my family included a new pastry made by Paola (fig tart, strudel etc). We went off to a village in the morning then returned for a swim then went off to a different village for sunset and dinner. We did a easy daytrip into Florence from here. Valerio was just wonderful in attending to our needs and answering questions. Extremely helpful. I wish we stayed longer and we will definitely be back.

We stayed for 3 nights in April in Apartment Girasole. Everything was as advertised - lovely big apartment with good quality bathroom and kitchen with all essential equipment. Valerio is very helpful and does everything to ensure his guests enjoy their holiday. It is a beautiful part of the country, very peaceful but close enough to visit all the tuscan...

We stayed for a week at this gorgeous villa. We rented the whole place, which was amazing. Valero and his wife could not have been any kinder or sweeter to us! They went out of their way to help us plan our trip and provided us with directions and ideas to help make our trip even better. I loved all of the room! My daughter and I stayed in The Green Room, which was the perfect size for us. The food was amazing, and valero's wife made an amazing pear torte for breakfast! She handmade us breakfast treats everyday!
The villa is centrally located too. It's about 15 minutes from the beautiful town of Voltera. The scenery is breath taking. I cannot believe how pretty the countryside of Tuscany was.
The website is completely honest. What you see of the page is real and no catches. A simply beautiful place to stay!

O the view at the Villa is breath taking. It is a place where you forget time. It is so peaceful and quiet you feel so relax while you are there. Every morning for breakfast Valerio would greet us with a smile. He treated us like family. Valerio arrange our cooking course with Gigi . That was one of highlights of the trip. Also set up our wine tasting tour it too was great. All I can say best trip I ever had. So if you are looking for a Villa in Tuscany this is the place to stay. I highly recommend Villa le Ginepraie . I miss Valerio and his wife already they were great guest hosts.

What a wonderful and relaxing place to vacation. Valerio and Paola treat you like family, and you never feel uncomfortable. The rooms were relaxing and so beautiful. The views from the Villa are spectacular and picture perfect. I recommend the cooking classes, (I have a special place in my heart for the Chef), Take the wine tour, especially with Silvia, what a delightful lady. Each moment we spent in the Villa le Ginepraie was a special moment, a snapshot in time that we will always remember. A definate must if you are in Italy, especially if you appreciate gracious hosts, spectacular views, relaxing rooms, and a once in a lifetime experience.

A truly delightful villa in a beautiful setting. We’ve recently returned from our second visit to Le Ginepraie and found it even more enchanting than the first time. Over the years we’ve stayed at some stunning places in Italy and France but Le Ginepraie stands way above all the rest. Put simply, it’s the only place we’ve wanted to visit again.
Set in rolling Tuscan countryside near the hamlet of Pignano, this is a holiday location for those who want to relax away from the world. Yet, for those who want a break from lounging by the pool, the major attractions of Siena and Florence are less than an hour away, with the hill towns of San Gimignano, Volterra and Monteriggioni being much closer.
The accommodation is faultless and elegantly decorated and furnished. We’re thinking of making our next visit in Spring, Autumn or Winter in order to make more use of the interior. Because in Summer, life is spent outside. We take our meals, apart from some poolside refreshment, in the loggia (including some of the preparation). There is a terrace for those who like to be in full sun. And cooking outside is possible with either the barbecue or wood-fired oven. The latter takes a bit to get used to but after a couple of attempts a fresh-made pizza is sublime.
But what makes Le Ginepraie extra special are the owners, Valerio and Paola. Their enthusiasm for life and the locale is infectious. They are unobtrusive, yet are there anytime for help and guidance (from ideas for walks to restaurant bookings). This adds another dimension to a wonderful destination.
I have no doubt that we will return.
Room tip: Rosso Fiorentino is the most elegant but all rooms are well decorated and furnished

We are never forgetting the wonderful days we have spent in this typical Tuscan villa, not only because of the place itself but also because of Paola and Valerio warmness. The house is a wonderful one, fully refurnished and lovely decorated. It is surrounded by incredible countryside with deers, rabbits, horses...Furthermore it is perfectly located, quite easy to reach from Pisa and Firenze and also close to Volterra, San Gimigniano...(from Barcelona, we took a flight from Girona to Pisa and rented a car at Pisa airport). All the area was so silent that we slept for hours and hours...Definitely this is the perfect place to choose when visiting la Toscana! We hope to be back again
Room tip: We stayed at the "sunflower apartment", really sunny, wide and perfectly equipped and decorated. It's a perfect place for a family with children and for cooking thinking of them. The view from the windows is simply a dream and by night we explained fairy tales beside the fire-place...Besides, heating works perfectly, so you can also enjoy it in winter.

We stayed here with family and friends in Aug 2011. The villa is lovely and Valerio was really friendly and helpful in all respects. We made good use of the pool and loved using the pizza oven for cooking during our stay. The children enjoyed horse riding at Pignano (a short walk away) and we enjoyed seeing the scenery in the surrounding area by hiring a quad bike from the villa (both of which Valerio helped organise along with a trip to some local small lakes which we swam in). We had a lovely holiday and hope to return one day !
